Brief biography of Mia Hamm goes as follows. Her full name was Mariel Margaret Hamm. She graduated from the University of North Carolina, in the subject of political science. She married in 1994 with her childhood love, Christian Corry; he was a Corps Pilot in US Marine. But their marriage got stressed due to the long absences of both. Mia Hamm was divorced in 2001.

Mia Hamm got engaged with Nomar Garciaparra, with whom she married in 2003. Mia Hamm’s family life began after she gave birth to twins. She was named as one of the 50th most beautiful women by People magazine. She was pictured as face of the month on the July/August cover of Women's Soccer World Magazine, and on the second Sports Illustrated-Women' Sport. Mia Hamm became the Women's Athlete of the Year for 1997.

Mia Hamm was the most popular soccer player during the 1990s. She was the youngest women who ever made to the US national team. She joined the squad at the age of 15 in 1987. Hamm’s good charming personality, her talent and an extraordinary deal with Nike made her really famous in USA and among the contemporary players. Nike introduced especial Mia Hamm gear, especially Mia Hamm jersey and the balls autographed by her. Nike also named their largest corporate after her.

Hamm was the youngest American woman to win a World Cup, when she was only nineteen, in 1991; when US women team won the FIFA Women World Cup for the first time. In May 1999 Hamm came at the top of the list for most goals scored by any woman with her 108th goal against Brazil. Same year US national team again became the world champions. She once held the record of scoring most goals by any female, with 152 goals under her belt.

Again in 1999 she began the Mia Foundation, which followed the bone marrow research. The foundation also looked after the women who were interested in taking part in various sports. The main reason behind creating this foundation was her brother Garret, who died because of this disease.

She was named as the U.S. Soccer's Female Athlete of the year for three years in a row from 1994-96, becoming the first player to be honored so. She was once the best woman soccer player in the world. In 2004, USA won a gold medal in Women Soccer event. Mia Hamm carried the flag of USA in the same Olympics.

She, along with another teammate Michelle Akers, was the only American woman who was named to the FIFA 100, a list of 125 greatest living players prepared by Pele, endorsed by FIFA on the 100th anniversary of the organization. All these facts made her an idol for the American public. Her game made soccer very popular among the Americans for many years.
