Mexican Soccer

Like France, Germany and Italy they have hosted two World Cups, one in 1970 and the other in 1986. The Mexican national team, although was not very successful in the game, however, the game of soccer is still played zealously in Mexico. The credit of introducing soccer in Mexico also goes to the English. They also taught them how to play and established the first ever official club in Mexico with the name of El Pachuca.

Primera Fuerza was the first ever organized championship in Mexico, established after the soccer developed in various parts of the country. This championship included the various teams of the federal district area which are a part of the Mexican soccer league. The players playing in this league were semi- professional even though professionalism had already taken over Europe. The soccer had already gained strength in Europe and South America a century ago when it was only at its initial stages in Mexico. The first ever Mexican national soccer team was selected for the first time in 1923 and around the same time the professional championship started in the country.

By the time the soccer league became popular in Mexico, there was a soccer governing body which had started to work with full force internationally, and that was FIFA. Therefore, Mexico made the decision to have their national soccer organization in 1927. The organization was named as Federacion Mexicana de Futbol Asocicion (FMFA). The federation formed its national team and then became a member of FIFA in 1929, just in time to take part in the first ever World Cup organized in Uruguay in 1930.

The national team of Mexico never able to show any outstanding performances in any of the World Cups they have so far played. They might only reach the quarter final stage twice so far, that too in the event held in their own country. However, there is a hope of their improvement in the coming years once their 2005 under seventeen World Cup winning squad would gain experience.

Mexican soccer federation gained the rights to arrange the 1970 World Cup, eyeing the economical and gaming boost it provide to soccer in the country. There the Mexican soccer team managed to display their best performance ever by reaching till the quarterfinal. Although, the performance of the Mexican soccer team has improved substantially since then, however, so has the level of the football played world over now-a-days.

Although they might not offer any extraordinary performances in the world of soccer, the Mexican soccer has however, created some very famous and outstanding players. Antonio Carbajal, was the first ever player to take part in five World Cups. He played some superb game for his team. Hugo Sanchez is an icon for the Mexican soccer. He went to play soccer for one of the best Spanish club Real Madrid between 1985 and 1992. During this time period he scored 253 goals in 283 matches. At the time of writing this article he is performing the duties of the manager and the coach of the Mexican national team.

Probably the most famous Mexican player of the time, Rafael Marquez, is one of the most important players of the Spanish club Barcelona. Basically a defender, he can play at various positions like centre, right or midfield. He is at present the captain of the Mexican National team.

There is a strong soccer culture prevailing in Mexico. But the Mexican soccer still needs time, money and real determination in order to strengthen its roots in this game. The national side also need to show some really good results in order to inspire the upcoming generation to play this game and only this could help to create some outstanding results for them.
