Barcelona Soccer
The history of Barcelona soccer goes back to 1899 when it was founded by a group of English, Swiss and Catalan soccer players. This group was headed by Joan Gamper. Now the club is owned by its members. These members also have the authority to elect the new presidents for the club. There are some 150, 000 members registered by 2006. The club also has 1782 officially registered supporter clubs. The club does not only deal with football but is also established to cater the needs of other sports like basketball, handball, rugby, and ice hockey etc. However, seventy five percent of its resources are reserved for the promotion of Barcelona soccer team, and is known around the world for the same sports.
The jerseys worn by Barcelona soccer team are the unique ones. The blue and the garnet color on the Barcelona jersey are symbolic of the endurance and aristocracy of the Barcelona soccer style. The brightly colored Barcelona soccer jerseys for home matches are an indication of the joy and energy of the Barcelona soccer team.
Barcelona soccer jerseys never had any sponsors’ logo over them. However, in 2006 they signed a five year agreement with UNISEF. After the agreement Barcelona has started to wear a non commercial logo of UNISEF on their jerseys. Furthermore, they provide the organization with a charity of two million dollars every year. This comes handy with the club motto which in English mean ‘more then a club’.

FC Barcelona became one of the founding members of the Spanish soccer league, La Liga in 1928. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao have never been demoted from the premier division. Basically based in Catalonia, FCB soon became one of the top clubs of both Catalonia and Spain.
Although the club has always employed the top performing players the results do not justify its talent. Though they have as many as eighteen La Liga titles, they could only win the UEFA Champions League merely twice. During the 2006/7 session of the league, Barcelona came second, behind Real Madrid who defeated them twice to lift the cup. Many people believed 1920s to be the best time period for the club. During this decade the member ship of the club jumped from 3000 members to 11000. In 1926 club opened their first stadium, Les Corts for the public. It had the capacity of almost 30,000 fans at that time. The club went into serious trouble during the era of 1930s, the time period when Hans Gamper died. The new presidents could not follow up as effectively and forced many members of the club to leave it. The 1960s proved even worse with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid monopolizing the league. The new stadium with the name of Camp Nou finished in 1957, which resulted in relatively poor economic conditions of the club, disallowing it to hire new players.
Barcelona soccer team has played some very attractive, attacking football all through its history. Its present squad includes the giants of the present day soccer Rohnaldinio, Samuel Eto’o, Argentine’s newly found legend Lionel Messi, France 98’s star Thierry Henry to name a few.
The club soccer reaches its new height every time Barcelona steps in the ground. That is the reason why its fans still love the club even though they failed to manage more than two UEFA Champions League Cups for them.
